WordPress Dashboard Overview
WordPress dashboard allows you to manage the content of your website. In this tutorial, we will quickly learn about the various tools available in the WordPress dashboard admin area.
Dashboard – Home:
This page displays the overview of WordPress content.
Dashboard – Updates:
This page display if any updates available for WordPress, Themes & Plugins. If available, you can update them on the same page.
Posts – All Posts:
This page displays the list of your existing WordPress posts. With every post, there is an option/link to edit, delete or view that post content.
What are WordPress Posts?
Posts are one of the principal elements (or content) of a blog. Posts can be seen as articles, news or informational updates about a certain topic. Blog posts can be organized using categories and tags.
Posts – Add New:
This allows you to Add New Posts in WordPress. You can enter Title and Content, and assign some Categories and Tags to it. You also have the option to Publish this post for the public or save it as a draft to publish in the future using the status menu.
Posts – Categories:
This allows you to Add New Categories for the Posts. You can enter Category Title and Description.
Posts – Tags:
This allows you to Add New Tags to Posts. You can enter Tags Title and Description. Tags work like important keywords for your content.
Media – Library:
Media Library is the place where all your media such as images, documents, audios, videos, and other files get stored. This media list will provide you the option to edit or delete existing media files.
Media – Add New:
Here, you can upload New Media files that can be used to add in the post/page’s content.
Pages – All Pages:
This section displays the list of your existing WordPress pages. With every page, you have an option/link to edit, delete or view that post content.
What are WordPress Pages?
Pages are another important element (or content) similar to Posts. You can enter Title & Content to pages in the same way. However, Pages are used for static type content such as about page, contact page, privacy policy, and terms & conditions. They do not need categories and tags associated with the content.
Pages – All Pages:
This section allows you to Add New Pages in WordPress. You can enter Title and Content for your page. You also have the option to Publish this page for visitors or save it as a draft to publish in the future using the status menu.
Pages – Comments:
WordPress Dashboard Comment Section allows you to view, moderate, delete, or reply to user comments on your post’s content.
Appearance – Themes:
Using the Theme section, you can view or switch themes. As the name suggests, the theme specifies the design for your website. You can also install New Themes here.
What are WordPress Themes:
WordPress themes define the appearance & functionality of your website. The theme folder mainly consists of stylesheet, JavaScript, Images, and PHP files.
Appearance – Customise:
Using the Customise section, you can Customise the look and feel of your theme. Inside Customise, they also allow you to place and manage some kind of content as well.
Appearance – Widgets:
WordPress Widgets section allows you to set up widgets content into your website. You can add WordPress widgets to your theme defined sidebar area. For example, most of the content that you see in the left & right sidebar comes from widgets on WordPress sites.
What are WordPress Widgets
WordPress Widgets are small blocks that are designed to add additional content and features to your website. Most of the time they are used for the sidebar & footer area but they can be used in other places as well.
There are many widgets that come with WordPress. Some of the content of the available widget are Categories, Menus, Tag cloud, Search, Audio and Images that you can use on your website.
Appearance – Menu:
WordPress provides a built-in menu section. You can create a menu & add WordPress content links in those menus. You can add posts, categories, pages or even custom links in the menu as well. The menu section also allows you to modify any menu link, label. You can even sort menu items simply by drag & drop.
What are WordPress Menu
Menus are used to build a navigation menu on a WordPress site. Navigation menus are quite popular on websites as they allow users to navigate through the website’s pages easily. Most of the theme supports one or more menus to display on the website.
