SEO – Content Writing

You may have heard “content is king”. It is true in the sense that search engines exist to show useful content. Without good content, technical tricks do not give a long result.

What is good SEO content?

  • Helpful for people: it answers the question of the visitor completely, in the first place.
  • Matches the intent: a guide for a “how to” search, a comparison for a “best” search. See Search Intent.
  • Original: it brings something new: your experience, examples, data, pictures or a clear explanation. A copy of other pages has no reason to rank.
  • Clear and easy to read: short paragraphs, headings, lists, tables and simple words.
  • Accurate and up to date: wrong or old information loses trust. See E-E-A-T and Helpful Content.

Steps to write an SEO article

  1. Choose the topic and one focus keyword. See Focus Keyword.
  2. Open the top results and see what they cover. Find what is missing, and what you can explain better.
  3. Make an outline with headings (H2 and H3).
  4. Write the answer first, then the details, examples and steps.
  5. Add images, tables or code examples where they help.
  6. Write the title and description. See Title Tag.
  7. Add links to related pages of your site. See Internal Linking.
  8. Read it again, fix the mistakes, and publish.

How long should the content be?

There is no perfect word count. Write as long as it is needed to answer the question well. A simple question can be answered in 300 words, and a complete guide may need 2000. Do not add extra text only to make the page long.

Duplicate and thin content

  • Duplicate content: the same text on more than one page. Use one page, or a canonical tag. See Canonical URLs.
  • Thin content: pages with very little or no useful information, like empty tag pages. Improve, merge or remove them.

Refresh old content

Check your best pages once or twice in a year. Update the facts, add new sections, fix the broken links, and change the “last updated” date only when you really changed something.

What about AI written content?

Google says it cares about the quality of the content, not how it was made. But creating many pages with a tool only to get rankings, without value for people, is against its spam policies. If you use an AI tool, use it as a helper, check every fact, add your own experience and edit the text yourself.

Note: Before you publish, ask: “If I was the visitor, would I be happy and stop searching after reading this?” Next: Images.
